UK National Insurance Rates Are Rising by 1.25% From April

National insurance rates are in increasing in the UK by 1.25% from the 2022-23 UK tax year, this is despite pressure on UK Chancellor Rishi Sunak to suspend or abolish the planned increase due to the cost of living crisis in the UK.

This means that if you are an employee in the UK your national insurance rate will increase from 12% to 13.24% (on the main rate) and 2% to 3.25% (on the higher rate).

Self employed individuals in the UK will see their national insurance rates increase from 9% to 10.25% (main rate) and 2% to 3.25% (higher rate).

These increases will be abolished from 2023-24 and replaced by a separate 1.25% Health & Social Care (H&SC) Levy meaning that this increase is here to stay unless Sunak makes a radical u-turn in this Spring Statement which will be delivered to Parliament on 23 March.
