Understanding Health & Social Insurance Tax & Benefits for Expats in Cyprus

GESY is the healthcare system in Cyprus that guarantees universal coverage of the population.

To qualify for healthcare in Cyprus as an expat you must:

  • Have paid social insurance as an employee for 3 months

  • Have paid a 2 quarterly payments as self employed (6 months)

  • Residency & work permit

New expats relocating to Cyprus will need private medical insurance covering at least one year.

This time is the required amount to get a residency visa and work permit issue so that the social insurance registration can then be made in order to qualify for GESY registration.
