Today is the deadline for EU citizens to apply for settled status in the UK

Today, 30 June 2021, is the last day for which EU, EEA and Swiss expats in the UK can apply for settled status in the UK.

Apply here (it is free).

You must have been living in the UK prior to 31 December 2020 to be eligible.

You can also apply if you’re the non-EU/ EEA/ Swiss family member of an EU, EEA or Swiss citizen who came to live in the UK before 31 December 2020.

What you’ll get

Providing your application is successful you’ll either be granted settled or pre-settled status.

Settled Status

You’ll be granted settled status if you’ve been living in the UK continuously for 5 years leading up to 31 December 2020.

This means that you must have spent at least 6 months in the UK every year of the 5 year period.

Pre-settled status

If you spent more than 6 months outside the UK in any of the 5 years preceding 31 December 2020 you will be granted pre-settled status.

You will then be able to apply for settled status once you have spent 5 years in the UK.
