That is not just the task to sweep the yard or call the client or complete the homework.

RESPONSIBLE

The person accepting the task must also understand and accept the responsibility. They must understand that the yard is to be swept to a standard, cleared of rubbish, brushed and washed down? Or tidied just. With the task must come the responsibility to get the job done to the standard on time.

The person accepting the task should accept the responsibility at pains of being irresponsible.

AUTHORISED

The delegate doing the job also needs the authority for what is required to get the job done. If they need to summon a drive to take garbage to the tip or if they need to engage a colleague to get the task complete in schedule.

The person with the responsibility should have clear authority to act within the scope of the requirements of the task.

CLEARLY

When setting out to delegate the task ensure the clear instructions and guidance include delegating the responsibility and authority to get the job done.
