What is a good way to die? Peacefully in your sleep, or just happy? Kafka wrote that the purpose of life is death. Certainly, it is inevitable for all and will come sooner or later.

Over 20 years, ProACT Partnership have seen many different types of passing across the last border of this world.

One client recalled, after a massive heart attack, hearing the doctor declare him dead as he started walking down the bright white tunnel. Another tale was of the expat speaking with family to share Christmas and New Year greetings on the phone, before passing in their sleep later that night.

Then there was the expat in hospital on end-of-life care, staying alive for three weeks until the children arrived for him to say farewell - passing that very night. One expat even arranged with his bank to transfer all his considerable cash funds to his children back home; this overseas bank transfer took place while he died peacefully at home.

The Complexity of the Last Border

Cross-border life can become very difficult, especially when Living and Working Abroad across borders and passing across the final frontier.

Each country in which you hold assets needs a probate administration with different rules and requirements. Real Estate, investments, pensions, bank accounts, business, cars - all need a legal path to pass to family or other beneficiaries.

Death is inevitable. Make a good plan to take care of family and business when needed.
