Why you need to secure settled status before Brexit ends

SETTLE YOUR RESIDENCY
In the EU an Expat should register as a Resident that could become a Permanent Residency after 5 years.
In the UK it’s called pre-settled and settled status.
This status confirms and retains EU citizen rights for a lifetime of living and working abroad for the expat and dependant family - even after Brexit.
Do nothing and the option is lost with the UK’s exit from the single market rules.
EU CITIZEN RIGHTS
This allows for visa free travel between countries, ongoing social and medical rights, and freedom to set up and run business. Even for UK expats after Brexit and EU expats in the UK.
What’s more non-EU citizens can then join their EU Citizen family member in their EU country of residency- even after Brexit.
BRITISH IN EU LAND
BRITISH citizens living and working abroad in the EU could acquire residency or settle status for a non-EU family members if they have an EU residency themselves.
NON-EU TO CITIZENS
If a non-EU expat has EU residency then non-EU family can’t automatically join them. They have to apply and be entitled in their own individual right.
If there are no EU citizens in the family the good news is once EU Permanent residence is confirmed, and subject to country by country rules, the non-EU expat could then progress to gain full citizenship. After which the dependant family could join. It may be a wait but over time you could get there.
BREXIT
Remembering that after the end of Brexit in December 2020 the UK is no longer in the EU. EU residency in the UK must be established before the end of December
