1-URGENT : 2-IMPORTANT : 3-NOT IMPORTANT

Do you every find yourself overwhelmed.Too much to do? Never enough time to get the job done right ? Do you become anxious with competing priorities and things to do ?

--

We all have those moments. Breakfast time at home and getting everyone ready for the day. Mid morning in the office juggling client, team and supplier demands. Late afternoon finishing those must do's in your working day. Evening choices between exercise, shopping, cooking, family, friends, hobby, that book.

---

There are many ways to tackle these challenges that we all go though. Here are 3 distinctions to help you prioritise the demands and allow you to enjoy your day , get things done, progress, and say well done to yourself for everything you have done today.

---

3 Questions to ask yourself to reduce overwhelm

---

  1. What is URGENT. Separate these out in your todo list. These are the jobs that are time critical and for the now.
IMG_5018.PNG

That does not mean you should being doing them all. Ask your self ''is this task consistent with your life goals and dreams for you, your family, your work, your career, your community? ''

If not you should be saying no and removing this job from your To Do List.

Also It doesn't mean you should do them all now. Yes attend to them. Do something even for 2 minutes, which might complete many of them!!  Do what you can now. Schedule the other tasks, and let the other people involved know.

Remember everyone you are dealing with in this world has their own list of urgent tasks. Most of the time they will understand you challenges and you will build trust by involving others and delivering something within the mutually agreed Urgent time scales.

---

2. What is IMPORTANT? Separate out the tasks you deem Important for you, your family, your team, your integrity. These are important to do, but not urgent to be done today.

E.g. Getting to work on time each day is Important. It is only Urgent in the hour leading up to your start time.

So, consider your Important tasks and schedule them. Right now,  put them straight in your diary with a commitment to yourself (and others if appropriate ) to get to it and do that job at that time.

Do the job at the scheduled time, Without fail. Because at the time in your diary you scheduled this work, it becomes Urgent and requires your disciple to do then.

If you keep doing this - completing the important tasks you schedule on time - at the time agreed with yourself, you will build trust and confidence in yourself that you get things done.

With that your anxiety and overwhelm will reduce and you will build a reputation as trust worthy and reliable in your relationships with family, work, community.

---

3. What is not Important ?

Make this list or pile of tasks created by you or given by others. This may be junk mail, junk email, a task you agreed to that is not your relevant to you, an invitation to an event that does not fit, the show that is on TV right now.

Really you should just bin these items now. Let them go. Really.

If you want to make time in your day to do them, why?  What value do you get ? How does you family and team benefit ?

Bin them. Just do it.

---

Now you have a strategy to deal with the many demands coming into your day. Practice day by day and you will feel less stressed, less anxious, and happier that your progress, do good and build your reputation, each day.
